Sony recently announced that Minecraft is finally coming to PSVR in a free update. This has been one of the most requested and discussed topics amongst the PlayStation community. Sony could also see a rise in the number of players who own a PSVR headset because of the upcoming update, which would allow Sony to gain more ground on their VR side of things.

This is definitely not the first time Minecraft has been released for a VR device, as you can use other VR headsets such as Oculus Rift to immerse yourself into Minecraft. There will be two main ways to play Minecraft on VR: immersive and living room modes. The immersive mode allows you to feel the real VR experience by putting you into the shoes of your character. The living room mode allows you to play Minecraft like you would play any other non-VR game by simply using the PSVR headset as a screen.

“Despite the pandemic adjusting how we develop Minecraft, development on Minecraft for PSVR has been relatively drama-free. Dare I say it, normal, even,” developer Mojang’s Roger Carpenter wrote in a PlayStation Blog post. “The Minecraft x PSVR experience itself is based on the Minecraft VR tech that we developed for other VR platforms a few years back. SkyBox Labs took that and have been working their magic to convert and optimise the existing tech for PSVR. And, of course, our friends at Sony have been there all along the way to guide us because they know their system better than anyone.”

Minecraft is available to purchase on Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, and PC.

So, what are your thoughts on the new Minecraft PSVR support that’s coming soon? Do you think it will live up to its hype? Personally, I think it is a good idea, as this will help more players get used to VR games. Whatever your thoughts may be, let us know in the comments below.
