A little over two years after Mary Skelter: Nightmares’s release, its upcoming sequel, Mary Skelter 2, has finally received a release date. Publisher Idea Factory announced that the dungeon role-playing game will be available digitally in North America and Europe on October 22 and October 23, respectively.
Mary Skelter: Nightmares is a dungeon-crawling role-playing game set in a mysterious tower inspired by twisted fairy tales. You play as Jack, the hero of the story, along with a band of Blood Maidens. Jack and these Blood Maidens are the only heroes capable of going through the living dungeon teeming with Nightmares – creatures that are near unstoppable and are hellbent on pursuing you and your group through fiendishly constructed labyrinths.
Its sequel, Mary Skelter 2, will reveal Jack’s transformation into a Nightmare. Evolving core elements from its predecessor, Mary Skelter 2 still has players assuming control of Jack, now with his Nightmare powers. The sequel is set in an alternate reality from Mary Skelter: Nightmares, employing both old and new features that will have you relive the torturous dungeon experience that the first game provided.
Key features players should expect for Mary Skelter 2 include the added facet of Jack’s transformation into a Nightmare, which will require players to monitor his heart rate meter throughout their dungeon runs. If Jack’s heart rate passes a certain limit, he will turn into Ripper Jack, causing him to go berserk. Other additions are the options to customize difficulty through the Jail Trial battle system. One such example is setting conditions like “no saves or heals” for a specific run. Successfully completing this will provide players with better item drops and more experience.
Mary Skelter 2 will launch for the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop on October 22 for North America and October 23 in Europe. The release will also include an upgraded version of the game’s prequel, Mary Skelter Nightmares. This version includes vast improvements over its first release in 2017.
Japan will receive the Switch version of Mary Skelter 2 in both physical and digital formats on August 22.
