Marvel Talks Absence Of X-Men, DLC Plans For Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite will be supported for years after launch with new characters Capcom

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite has had a bit of a rough start after the release of the demo, and many fans are still wondering why the roster is devoid of favorites like Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops and Dr. Doom. Marvel has finally commented on the situation, but get ready for a vague non-answer.

In an interview with, Marvel Games’ Jay Ong danced around the issue of X-Men and Fantastic Four characters, but did mention plans to support the game for years to come.

"It's something I really can't comment on right now," Ong told about the characters. "We haven't officially released the roster. Let's just say we think our fans will be pleased with what's being announced.”

Earlier in the interview, Ong commented that Marvel Games views games as a service. This can best be seen in the many Marvel mobile games, like Marvel Contest of Champions and Marvel Future Fight. That will be the same approach taken for Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite.

“There's going to be content released over time. We're not seeing this as a one-off that ships this fall; it's a service that goes on for years,” Ong said. “Therefore, if you look at it, content and new characters are going to be dropped over time, and I think fans will be happy with what's going to be dropped, not just in September but going on from there."

While this is in no way a confirmation that some fan-favorite characters are going to be included in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite in the future, it certainly seems like Ong is saying that there are possibilities to surprise everyone. If it’s true that support will last for years, it’s possible deals could be worked out to get characters into the game who might not be available right now.

So what do you think? Do you wish Marvel would make it clear if X-Men and Fantastic Four characters will be in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite or not? What characters do you hope get announced for the roster? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
