International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. It is a day that is meant to honor the economic, social, political, and cultural achievements of women across the world. In celebration of this day, Magic: The Gathering is going to be launching a Secret Lair Drop Series.
For those not familiar, Secret Lair is where groups of existing cards are placed into small collectible sets generally based on themes. The collection is exclusively sold at the Secret Lair shop.
For the upcoming International Women’s Day celebration, the collection is made up of the most influential and powerful women in the history of Magic: The Gathering. They’ve also been drawn by some of the finest illustrators. The collection includes:
- Captain Sisay with art by Magali Villeneuve
- Meren of Clan Nel Toth with art by Cynthia Sheppard
- Oona, Queen of the Fae with art by Mila Pesic
- Narset, Enlightened Master with art by Livia Prima
- Saskia the Unyielding with art by Anna Steinbauer
You’ve probably noticed that not only are the cards all about women, but even the illustrators themselves are also all women.
In addition to the cards, there’s also a one single-use code for one Magic: The Gathering Arena International Women's Day 2020 Sleeve, which features Saskia the Unyielding. The code can be redeemed until December 31, though it may not be available for all countries.
This deal is not going to be available for a long time. Like the previous Secret Lair drops, the one for International Women’s Day is available for 24 hours. Sales start on March 8 at 12:00 p.m. ET. Each copy is priced at $49.99, with a limit of 15 per customer. If that feels too high, don't worry too much as $25 per unit sold is going to be donated to benefit the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
In terms of shipping, Wizards of the Coast revealed that similar to previous Secret Lair drops, orders are going to be shipped once inventory is available, which should be within 6-10 weeks. You can view the list of countries where the collection can be shipped here.
