Mafia Twitter Account Becomes Active, Remasters Are All But Confirmed

Mafia 2

2020 is the year of remakes and remasters, it would seem. The year isn’t even halfway over yet and we already have Resident Evil 3 Remake, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. Crytek also confirmed a couple of weeks ago that Crysis Remastered will also be coming this year. Now we have two more games that might get the remaster treatment, namely, Mafia 2 and 3.

Yesterday, the official Mafia Twitter account came back from the dead. They just posted a one-word tweet that reads ‘Family’. Normally, we thought that this might be a teaser for a proper sequel, but a month ago, the Taiwan and Korean ratings boards gave ratings to Mafia 2: Definitive Edition and Mafia 3: Definitive Edition. This all but confirms that we have a remaster in the works.

Mafia 2 can definitely use a remaster. Though the game is amazing and has pretty decent graphics, we think it will heavily profit from new tech like ray tracing. However, the decision to remaster Mafia 3 is questionable. The latest entry in the series is the weakest one, with blurry graphics and repetitive main missions. The PC port of Mafia 3 was also fairly terrible. A remaster might fix the graphics and PC port, but repetitive missions will still be there along with improved visuals. I would rather prefer a remaster or a proper remake of the original Mafia, which was released back in 2002.

The Twitter account posted another one-word tweet today. No other information about the upcoming remasters have been revealed. We don’t know for which platform these potential remasters might release on and when. An official announcement should be coming soon.

Given that the next-gen console releases are just around the corner, it should be safe to assume that the possible remasters will launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X. However, do keep in mind that these are just assumptions and actual remasters haven’t even been confirmed yet.

So what do you think? Are you interested in Mafia 2 and 3 Remasters? Or would you rather have a proper sequel? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
