Love is Coming to Sucker for Love: First Date!

Love conquers all.
Love conquers all. DreadXP

When talking about Lovecraft lore, it’s always associated with horror. But that’s about to change with Sucker for Love: First Date. Releasing in December, it hopes to introduce love to this rather dark and grim universe.

So how does that work? Players are tasked with winning the affection of the girl of their dreams. By the way, that refers to literal dreams since players need to invoke rituals inspired by the lore. Girls include the likes of Ln’eta, a cute Cthulhu-like entity that’s an affectionate sweetheart but has a rather jealous streak. Then there’s Estir who’s all about yellow and finer things in life. Finally, is Nyanlathotep who could be intimidating but has that certain je ne sais quoi which could enrapture those around her.

The new game is actually based on the micro-game of the same name as part of the horror anthology Dread X Collection 2. This new version, however, expands the original concept significantly. It has been remade into a standalone title that re-imagines the visual novel genre with the use of immersive gameplay mechanics.

Key features include:

  • Slide Into Her DMs (Daemoniac Manuscripts)
    • The lovely pink Necronomicon that you’ve found allows you to be united with your very own blasphemous beauty.
    • The game offers three dateable goddesses, each fully voiced with unique game endings.
  • Abnormal Desires
    • A healthy relationship needs compromise.
    • Don’t forget to live a little and try some fun rituals that your particular goddess wants.
  • Love Everlasting
    • Explore your budding romance across three chapters.
  • Stylish Invocation
    • Have fun with the charming visuals and music.
    • It’s sure to bring to mind old-school anime and dating sims.
  • Let Your Guard Down
    • This is a dating game so don’t worry about encountering horror elements or danger.

In a statement, DreadXP Owner and Producer Patrick Ewald said that given the reception of the original Sucker for Love, they knew there was something special. He added that they are happy to work with Akabaka to expand the original game into a series.

Meanwhile, DreadXP Head of Production Ted Hentschke shared that they were amazed by what Akabaka accomplished in 10 days. For players who love dating sims and visual novels, they’re in for a treat once the game is officially released.
