The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is all set to arrive to the Nintendo Switch this September 20. This is a remake of the original 1993 game of the same name. The original version was developed for the Game Boy and is the first The Legend of Zelda game to be made for a handheld console.

The remake version continues to have the top-down perspective of the original, along with very similar gameplay. It even has some of the elements of the 1998 Link's Awakening DX remaster. One interesting feature of the remake is that it offers a "retro-modern" art style while having toy-like character designs. It even has tilt-shift visuals in order to provide the same presentation as that of the original version.

So what is this one all about?

This time, out hero Link gets washed ashore on a mysterious island that has strange, yet colorful inhabitants. In order to be able to escape the island, Links needs to collect magical instruments and awaken the Wind Fish.

As a player, you get to explore a reimagined Koholint Island, one that has been faithfully recreated with a brand-new art style. It is sure to entice not only new players, but even old fans. While going through the island, you are definitely going to uncover hidden secrets and conquer the numerous dungeons. You may even encounter enemies from Super Mario like Piranha Plants and the Goombas.

Features of the game include:

  • Explore numerous dungeons, riddled with tricks, traps, and enemies, including some from the Super Mario series.
  • Meet and interact with unique locals to get help on your adventure.
  • Listen to a reawakened soundtrack that helps bring life to Koholint Island.
  • Earn Chambers (Dungeon Rooms) and arrange them to complete objectives in the all-new Chamber Dungeon mode.
  • Complete dungeons throughout the story to earn their rooms for the Chamber Dungeon.
  • Earn additional chambers in mini-games and by tapping any Legend of Zelda amiibo figure.

One interesting addition to the game is that once you clear the dungeons in the main story, you then get to play with them through the new Chamber Dungeon entrance. What this means is that you get to create your own dungeon so you get to decide where to place the entrance, the Nightmare room, and everything in between and then play and fulfill the objectives of this new dungeon.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening can be purchased on the Nintendo eShop for $59.99.
