League of Legends introduced its first update of the year with Patch 10.1. With this patch, Sett officially arrives to the League roster. In addition, Sylas gets an update as well, with the changes focusing mainly on supporting his role as a midlaner.

The Boss

Let's start with Sett. While most champions in the game are typically in favor of peace and harmony, this one is a little different. Sett leads an Ionian crime syndicate by using his physical prowess and high damage threshold. For those who have yet to meet this bad boy, here's a glimpse at his abilities:

  • Pit Grit (Passive)
    • Sett's basic attacks alternate between left and right punch with the right one being slightly stronger and faster. However he also hates losing and thus gains additional health regeneration based off of his missing health.
  • Knuckle Down (Q)
    • With this ability, his next two attacks deal additional damage based on the max health of the target. Sett also gets gains movement speed when moving towards enemy champions.
  • Haymaker (W)
    • Sett passively stores damage he takes as Grit. Once cast, Sett expends all stored Grit to gain a shield and punch an area, dealing true damage in the center and physical damage on the sides.
  • Facebreaker (E)
    • Sett pulls in all enemies on opposite sides of him, dealing damage and then stunning them. If enemies were only on one side, they are not stunned but instead slowed.
  • The Show Stopper (Ultimate)
    • Sett carries an enemy champion through the air, slams them into the ground, and then deals damage. This action also slows all enemies near where they land.

Sylas

According to the development team, this champion has been difficult to stabilize. In addition, Sylas has undergone a long record of changes since his release. This time around, he gets a bigger change rather than the usual minor tweaks and modifications.

One change is that his early lane is going to be more in line with champions that have less control in early laning phase, but get stronger with levels. The changes are also meant to balance him as a midlaner and encourage him to be on that lane more instead of the others.

Thus, while his base health has been lowered to 525, health growth is increased to 115. The same can be said for armor which has been lowered to 27. That said, armor growth is now 4. For his abilities, some changes include:

  • Passive - Petricite Burst
    • Fast Chainz added which gives Sylas 60% attack speed when available.
    • Added Minion Execute which is able to execute secondary target minions when under 25 health.
  • Q - Chain Lash
    • Added Caged which can no longer be cast during E - Abduct.
    • Detonation was removed.
  • W - Kingslayer
    • Basic attack reset has been removed along with Mercy.
  • E - Abscond/Abduct
    • Basic attack reset has been removed as well along with Shield.
  • R - Hijack
    • Like with other abilities, basic attack reset has been removed as well.
