Riot Games’ lead champion producer, Ryan ‘Reav3’ Mireles, revealed a champion roadmap recently denoting upcoming plans for the League of Legends champion roster. Among these planned updates are a much-needed rework and visuals and gameplay update for one of the League’s most inveterate heroes, and a new champion to represent a never-before-seen faction of Runeterra.
According to the roadmap, the new champion will be a “solo lane AD assassin”. Solo-lane AD Assassin-type champions occupy either the Top lane or the Mid lane (sometimes Jungle, depending on the viability of their kit) and are arguably one of the most popular roles in League of Legends. Champions that belong in this category include pro-scene top-picks like Zed, and crowd-favorites like Talon. Unlike previous champion releases, however, this new solo-lane AD assassin will also be introducing a brand new faction to the game, one that has so far been hidden in the Runeterran wilderness:
This champion’s arrival will send you deep into the jungles of Runeterra where a brand new faction, hidden from the rest of the world, will reveal itself.
As far as his (or possibly, her) kit goes, we don’t know all that much. However, Reav3 does indicate what this new champion may be capable of. Based on the developer’s comments, the new champion may have abilities linked to walls and impassable terrain - think Kayn’s Shadow Step ability. The new champion’s abilities will definitely be tied to their environment, so some interesting new gameplay mechanics might be coming to League soon.
