League of Legends: Free Champion Rotation Riot Games

League of Legends revealed the new heroes available in the latest free champion rotation. The offer begins May 28 and ends June 4.

Unlike Dota 2, League of Legends follows a different model when it comes to heroes. While Dota 2 allows players the ability to play all heroes, in League of Legends, some heroes need to be purchased. This is where the free champion rotation comes into play.

Every week, Riot Games makes selected champions available to all players to access without the need to buy them. The goal isn't just to give new players the change to play new champions. It also allows new players to form balanced teams since they get to play with different roles. Consistently playing means that even new players eventually get the chance to try all champions.

For those wondering, the selection process is indeed random, so there is the possiblity that some champions could appear more in rotations compared to others. According to Riot, another reason for this is that some champions are easier to play compared to others, so there is also that consideration when choosing which ones to include.

For this week, the champions on the rotation are:

  • Azir - the Emperor of the Sands
    • Primary Role Mage
    • Secondary Role Marksman
  • Braum - the Heart of the Freljord
    • Primary Role Support
    • Secondary Role Tank
  • Darius - the Hand of Noxus
    • Primary Role Fighter
    • Secondary Role Tank
  • Gangplank - the Saltwater Scourge
    • Primary Role Fighter
  • Gragas - the Rabble Rouser

    • Secondary Role Mage
  • Graves - the Outlaw
    • Primary Role Marksman
  • Irelia - the Blade Dancer
    • Primary Role Fighter
    • Secondary Role Assassin
  • Janna - the Storm's Fury
    • Primary Role Support
    • Secondary Role Mage
  • Jhin - the Virtuoso
    • Primary Role Marksman
    • Secondary Role Mage
  • Jinx - the Loose Cannon
    • Primary Role Marksman
  • LeBlanc - the Deceiver
    • Primary Role Assassin
    • Secondary Role Mage
  • Nasus - the Curator of the Sands
    • Primary Role Fighter
    • Secondary Role Tank
  • Syndra - the Dark Sovereign
    • Primary Role Mage
    • Secondary Role Support
  • Ziggs - the Hexplosives Expert
    • Primary Role Mage

Free champion rotation is generally scheduled for release Mondays, but Riot often moves the date to avoid any holidays. This week for example, the rotation was released Tuesday, considering that Monday was Memorial Day. There are also occasions when champions are added to the rotation as a result of special events or to compensate for the fact that they have been temporarily disabled.
