Following the addition of Critical Mode, which allowed players to experience a harder difficulty and further challenge themselves, the next piece of news relating to Kingdom Hearts 3 has been revealed: a new piece of downloadable content, tentatively titled Kingdom Hearts 3 ReMIND.

The downloadable content was a surprise announcement from Kingdom Hearts 3’s game director, Tetsuya Nomura. Nomura made the announcement during the Kingdom Hearts World of Tres Orchestra show in Tokyo last week. A Twitter account was quick on the scene, and provided Westeners and the rest of the world the great news.

According to the tweet, the downloadable content includes the additional scenario titled ReMIND. It’s too early to say what this might mean, but some have speculated that the introduction of this DLC is kind of like a Final Mix version of the game, much like the previous Kingdom Hearts Final Mix. While this changes some things about the game and adds certain new elements, the final product is still the same. It would seem that the Japanese are fond of these approaches, as evidenced by the recently announced Persona 5 Royal, which is a basically the same Persona 5 game albeit with new characters, a new semester and more.

The downloadable content also includes two new episodes: A Limit Episode, which includes its own boss, as well as a new Secret Episode, also coming with its own boss. There is also a new English voice acting option, which will be made available to Japanese players. There is no word if the English version will be playable with Japanese voice actors.

While this DLC is ultimately a paid addition, there is a freebie that might come along with the update. It features a new Keyblade and form for Sora, both immediately available for free.

In spite of this, there is still no release date planned for this upcoming DLC. If it’s not announced in the next few weeks, then it’s entirely possible we might get to see it during Square Enix’s E3 presentation on June.

Kingdom Hearts 3 and its latest Critical Mode addition is now available on PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
