The live concert special Persona Super Live 2019 brought some very good surprises for Persona 5 fans who can’t get enough of the game. The event officially debuted the trailer for an updated version of the game called Persona 5 Royal, which includes a massive amount of content such as a new party member for the Phantom Thieves, an extra Confidant, new attack animations and a ton more. Players in the West will have to suffer through some wait time, though – while Persona 5 Royal is set to be released in Japan on October 31, 2019, the worldwide release will be sometime in 2020, exclusively on the PlayStation 4.

The trailer above includes a new theme song and incorporates new gameplay from areas not included in Persona 5. Kichijoji becomes fully explorable, for instance, and there you can engage with different characters in new social scenes, visit an aquarium, and lounge around at a game bar called the Penguin Sniper with your whole crew while playing pool and darts.

There are several new attack animations shown in the trailer as well, with a particular standout starring Haru firing a grenade launcher atop Morgana as a speeding bus. This sort of partner attack was similar to Persona 4’s own expansion of the game, Persona 4 Golden. Another animation shows Makoto throwing fast punches a-la Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star. Though the trailer doesn’t confirm it, there may be a new palace that will be included in the game, based on a shot of a new animated cutscene.

The new party member was introduced as well, and she goes by the name of Kasumi Yoshizawa, a transfer student at Shujin Academy and a rhythmic gymnast. It looks like she will be wielding a rapier-style sword in the game, as well as a Winchester-type rifle. The character is expected to play an important role in the expanded game. She changes up some of the storyline and will be closely tied to Joker and Goro Akechi.

Persona 5 Royal is set to be released on Japan on October 31, 2019, followed by a worldwide release sometime in 2020. The title is a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
