iPhone 7 Release Date: New Apple Smartphone, Features To Reportedly Debut Next Month

A Bloomberg report claims Apple will reveal its latest iPhone -- to be named either the iPhone 7 or iPhone 6SE -- on Sept. 7.

This release date supports earlier claims from tech insider Evan Blass, who said the latest iPhone would see a retail release on Sept. 16. Back in June, Blass also revealed it was “highly unlikely” the latest incarnation of the Apple smartphone would be called the iPhone 7.

We predicted Apple’s official unveiling of the latest iPhone would come Sept. 5 or 6, with the device in stores Sept. 16. Sept. 7 lines up with Apple's previous iPhone release timetables, as the 6s debuted on Sept. 9, 2015.

The latest iPhone -- whatever its number -- is expected to do away with the standard 3.5 mm headphone jack and boast improved photographic capabilities, which may or may not include a dual-lens camera. The base model is also reported to be 32GB, a bump up from the current 16GB low-end model. For the first time, Apple could offer a 256GB iPhone with the release of the 7/6SE. Those factors aside, the consensus holds the device will be rather similar to the iPhone 6s. You’ll have to wait until next year to get a radically revamped iPhone, possibly with an all-glass case.
