Injustice 2 has finally been confirmed with a 2017 release date and the gaming community is buzzing over NetherRealm Studios’ latest fighting game.

The sequel to the successful Injustice: Gods Among Us, Injustice 2 will look to bring a larger roster, better fighting and a whole lot more.

Of course, with E3 2016 around the corner there’s bound to be more information and gameplay footage to dissect and analyze. For now, let’s run down all the new features in Injustice 2.

NEW CHARACTERS JOIN THE FIGHT

The Injustice 2 t railer revealed that Supergirl will be joining in the DC Comics slugfest. The cousin of Superman has not always had the best relationship with the Man of Steel in the comics and that relationship is likely even more strained in the Injustice universe.

Supergirl is on the superhero side, but there are two new characters in Injustice 2 that are from the supervillain camp.

According to the official press release, Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd will make their debuts in Injustice 2.

“Players can play from the biggest DC roster ever offered in a fighting game, from classic fan favourites such as Batman, Superman, Supergirl and Aquaman, to astonishing new villains like Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd.”

Atrocitus is the leader of the Red Lanterns, like the Green Lanterns but powered by Rage instead of Will. If Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and Sinestro return to Injustice, this will be the third Lantern Corp represented.

Gorilla Grodd is a Flash villain who is an actual talking gorilla. Grodd has psychic abilities to go along with his super strength. This is also the character that Ed Boon teased on Twitter before the official announcement was made.

LEVEL INTERACTIONS RETURN!

One of the biggest draws to the first Injustice game was the level interactions during fights. You can toss items and even launch your opponent into another area of a city.

The interactions will return in Injustice 2 and NetherRealm promises to bring them to another level.

“We’re adding new characters, new environments, and we’re taking environment destruction and interaction to the next level.”

NEW GEAR SYSTEM

NetherRealm Studios is always looking to change up the fighting system of its games. And with Injustice 2, players will be getting a new Gear System that will allow them to customize their own fighters.

According to the PlayStation blog, the Gear System in Injustice 2 works as so:

“The Gear System uses RPG-like mechanics to reward you with loot drops every time you play the game. With each loot drop, you will earn character-specific gear to outfit and power up your roster – changing not only the look of each character, but your fight strategy and your personal approach to every match.”

Whenever you play the game there will be a loot drop that gives you the chance to get character-specific gear. You can then customize your fighter and change up how you fight and will be totally unique to you.

You’ll also be able to “level-up” your heroes.

THE STORY CONTINUES

The story of Injustice: Gods Among Us ended with “evil” Superman being put into the Red Sun prison. However, where can the story of Injustice 2 go from there? Of course, NetherRealm isn’t spoiling it but the press release gave us this snippet of information.

“ Injustice 2 continues the epic cinematic story introduced in Injustice: Gods Among Us as Batman and his allies work towards putting the pieces of society back together while struggling against those who want to restore Superman’s regime. In the midst of the chaos, a new threat appears that will put Earth’s existence at risk.”

The DC Comics Universe is so large with so many threats that this “threat” could be anyone. Darkseid? The Anti-Monitor?

We’ll just have to wait and see.

So what do you think of all the Injustice 2 information? Who do you want to see added to the roster? Sound off in the comments section below.
