iDigitalTimes Presents: The Unearned Hype Podcast

The Last Of Us Remastered
The Last Of Us Remastered Sony / Naughty Dog

It’s been about three months since fellow iDigitalTimes reporter Phil Martinez and I launched the site’s newest weekly podcast. We’re trying to deliver something a bit different than most of the gaming podcasts you’re already familiar with, many of which adopted noticeably similar formats. Instead, we focus on a maximum of two topics per week and try to highlight news or opinions we see hyped (or slandered) to an unrealistic degree.

When a slew of glowing Horizon Zero Dawn previews hit the web, just a few weeks before the game was out, we recorded an episode sharing the concerns that went unaddressed by the mob of people seemingly stumbling over one another to find the nicest thing to say about HZD. We devoted an entire episode to discussing one Forbes contributor’s suggestion that early success for the Nintendo Switch could be a sign that Project Scorpio is doomed. Last week, we shared our feelings on the NES Classic cancellation and my belief that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be the survival/battle-royale game to beat for the foreseeable future. And this week we dived into our thoughts on “Video Games Are Better Without Stories,” a recent opinion piece from The Atlantic Contributing Editor Ian Bogost.

And the best part, if you like to binge listen/watch new media, is that we already have 13 episodes waiting for you.

We’ve included YouTube and SoundCloud archives of the this week's show and we’ll continue to do so with each new episode going forward. You can also watch us record the show live every week on Twitch. We usually record at 1 p.m. (EST) every Wednesday, barring scheduling conflicts. You can even listen to The Unearned Hype Podcast on iTunes. Just remember to click the Subscribe button if you like what you hear!
