HyperX Cloud Revolver Review HyperX

I have a very oddly shaped head. While most people have spherical heads, mine is more of an egg-shaped. Because of this, I find it very hard to wear over the ear headphones. Most of the time they scrunch my head, giving me a terrible headache after I’m done using them. My ears turn bright red and I’m miserable for the rest of the day. It’s made me choose between having good sound quality or comfort, I rarely get to mix the two.

When I saw HyperX’s new headset, the Cloud Revolver, my eyes lit up. The headset doesn't use the normal over-the-head headband popular with headsets, instead choosing to go for a much more unique approach. A metal bridge sits on top of the earphones, allowing heads of all sizes to fit inside with relative ease. There’s no need to adjust straps or mess around with fidgety parts, it’s a “one size fits all” headset.

I’ve been using the Revolver non-stop for the past week, and I absolutely love it. My head doesn't feel squeezed or crushed when I put it on. After an eight hour gaming session, I had no headaches, which has never happened before. The ear cups are squishy and make my ears feel like they are floating on clouds.

The sound quality is great, I don’t know much about differentiating between mids and highs, but I do know how important hearing every little noise is when playing Overwatch . While using the Revolver, everything sounded alive and crisp. I still died to Junkrat’s tire, but I can’t say it’s because I didn’t hear it. I knew the sucker was right behind me, I just told my team I “was caught off-guard.”

I only have one major gripe with the Revolver – how it looks. The metal band on top might make the headset comfortable, but boy does it look dumb. If I ever needed an accessory to finish a steampunk cosplay, the Revolver would fit right in. In an age where sleek and sexy peripherals are all the rage, HyperX’s headset just doesn't fit in. It sits somewhere between old Walkman headphones and Apple Airpods.

The Revolver comes with a detachable mic and an extra cord with volume and microphone muting options. As far as gaming headsets go, HyperX really knocked it out of the park on this one.
