It was last week when Hunt: Showdown launched an event to celebrate its third anniversary. Titled “As The Crow Flies,” it’s divided into two acts. Once players finish Act 1, a new threat arises in Scrapbeak. Today, we take a closer look at this new boss.

In most boss areas of the game, players typically get access to supplies. Scrapbeak, however, has "Hoarding" and its lair lacks supplies since he carries them on his back. Players, therefore, need to prepare before going against this new boss.

In Hunt: Showdown, bosses activate what's known as "Frenzy" when they take too much damage. In the case of Scrapbeak, he sports a variation called "Shedding." What happens is when he enters Frenzy, he drops the tool he is currently carrying and then equips a random tool. He may drop a maximum of three items. But if Frenzy is a result of an explosion, the dropped items become damaged and unusable. Here are what Scrapbeak drops:

  • Tools
    • Axes
    • Hammers
    • Shovels
    • Pitchforks
  • Items
    • Bear Traps
    • Lanterns
    • Ammo Crates (includes Special Ammunition)
    • Item Boxes
    • Health Stations (similar to Doctor Grunts)
    • Trait Charms (Rare)

Scrapbeak also carries a Backpack that lowers the damage of most directed attacks by 50%. The backpack though isn’t able to reduce damage from piercing attacks.

Under Frenzy, Scrapbeak can generate these effects as well:

  • All damage is reduced by 50% for the duration of Frenzy.
  • Frenzy damage reduction stacks with backpack damage reduction.
  • Directed attacks like gunshots cause a primed concertina bomb to drop.
  • Fire, poison, or similar damage doesn’t cause the above effect.
  • Movement speed slightly increases after each Frenzy. This effect stacks.
  • Scrapbeak’s scream will apply the “ear-ringing” effect to all players in proximity to the boss/lair.

Finally, we take a look into his attacks. The good news, if you can call it that, is he only uses one tool at a time. Just watch out when he has an ax since his attacks systemically apply the bleeding effect to players. Don't expect Scrapbeak to only use melee weapons because he can throw special concertina bombs to you or at spots where you could enter or leave the lair.
