UPDATE: Rockstar has resolved all issues with transfering characters from both the Xbox 360 and PS3 to the Xbox One and PS4. Download the latest patch, and then try the steps written below.

Original story is as follows.

GTA V is coming, GTA V is coming! Well, again, anyway. And with GTA V comes the launch of GTA Online on PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version of GTA Online will be coming alongside the full PC release in January.

With the re-launch of GTA Online, many players who already experienced GTA Online on the Xbox 360 or PS3 will be able to transfer their character, and all of their progress, over to the new consoles. Doing so is insanely easy too. Just follow these short steps:

  1. Go to socialclub.rockstargames.com and either create a new account, or make sure your current account is linked to your PSN or Xbox Live account.
  2. Launch GTA Online on your new console once the game is released
  3. When prompted to transfer a character (which should be immediately), choose Yes.
  4. ??????
  5. PROFIT!!!

Although details on the PC version have yet to be released, one would assume that transferring your character to the PC would be an identical process. It may require you to link your Steam account, or whatever client that Rockstar will use to host GTA V, though, so be ready for that.

Not only is it easy to transfer your character, it's also beneficial to have your account linked up to the Social Club. Those who have already played GTA V on the PS3 or Xbox 360 will receive many bonus items for free that new players to GTA V will have to purchase with in-game cash. Thanks to a posting on Rockstar's Newswire, those who upgrade from last-gen to current-gen can expect to see new vehicles, missions and other surprises.

Activities

The biggest new activity is the murder mystery. A new line of side missions will unlock for Michael, which sees him tracking the trail of a murderer. Once finishing the line of quests, players will unlock two Noir Style Filters, which will give your Story Mode gameplay and Snapmatic photos the feel of a gritty old school crime classic. Franklin will have a new set of animal wildlife photography challenges featuring the new critters coming to Blaine County. Completing these challenges will unlock the new Kraken Sub, pictured below.

There will also be a new series of Stock Car races. Competing in these new races will unlock more custom muscle cars that have been emblazoned with corporate logos.

Weapons and Vehicles

The new weapons coming to those who have already played GTA V include the high-powered, high-velocity Rail Gun, and a hatchet for melee chopping. The rail gun will unlock a new series of target practice challenges at Ammu-Nation stores.

The new vehicles list is lengthy. Players can expect to see the return of the classic Dodo seaplane and the "near-indestructible mayhem machine," the Imponte Duke O’Death along with the sub and muscle cars mentioned above. There will also be an unlockable Go Go Monkey Blista, which is a two-door hatchback, that can be all yours if you manage to find and take pictures of the mysterious monkey mosaics found around Los Santos. Additionally, there will be a monster truck and a faster, more agile blimp.

Rockstar then ended their post by answering a few of their fans' most pressing questions. Some of the highlights include further clarification on how profile transfers will work with GTA Online. Players will be able to transfer their pre-existing character over to a new console, but only once. They will still be able to play GTA Online with their character on their old console, but progress is not transferred between systems. Also, to those of you who pre-ordered GTA V the first time around and received the exclusive weapons, stunt plane trials, and other content will still have those items. Players who didn't pre-order the first time will now have the option to buy those items with in-game cash on the PS4, Xbox One or PC.

So there you have it. As long as your Rockstar Social Club account is tied to your gaming account, the process is as easy as the push of a button. Will you be picking up GTA V at midnight tonight? Will you be experiencing it for the first time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
