Crackdown 3 is set to release on February 15 and Microsoft has announced a technical test for the destructive shooter ahead of launch. The technical test is free to participate in, as long as you download an app first.

The Crackdown 3 technical test begins on February 7. The technical test client will be available to download starting at 12 p.m. EST and gamers can start playing later that day at 3 p.m. EST. It isn’t mentioned when the technical test will end, but it will likely be around February 10 or 11. Oddly, Microsoft stressed that the technical test isn’t a beta, saying the test will be used to gather data, feedback and bug reports. Isn’t that what a beta is? Oh well.

How To Play Crackdown 3 Technical Test

To participate in the Crackdown 3 technical test, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to the Xbox Store and download the free Xbox Insider Hub app

  2. Open the app and scroll down to “Insider content”

  3. Download Wrecking Zone: Technical Test once it is available starting on February 7 at 12 p.m. EST

That’s it! There is no pre-ordering or any purchases necessary.

What Is In Crackdown 3 Technical Test?

The Crackdown 3 technical test only has one game mode and one map available. Players will be able to try the Agent Hunter game mode on the Blackout Zone level. The goal of Agent Hunter is to kill as many opposing Agents as possible and take their badges. It sounds like Kill Confirmed if you are familiar with Call of Duty game types.

Crackdown 3 releases for Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs on February 15. Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play right at release for no additional fees. Xbox Game Pass subscriptions start at $9.99 per month.

So what do you think? Will you participate in the Crackdown 3 technical test for yourself? Will you hold off until the full game releases a week later? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
