A new trailer for Hellblade has been released by Ninja Theory, our first look at the project since it was announced back in 2014, along with the news that the studio’s next project will be known as Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice when it heads to PlayStation 4 and PC later this year.

Our latest glimpse at Ninja Theory’s upcoming action game arrives alongside a short post on the U.S. PlayStation Blog, penned by “product development ninja” Dominic Matthews. According to Matthews, Senua struggles with psychosis stemming from the trauma of losing a loved one. As such, it was important for the studio to “portray the physical, emotional, and mental trials” of her journey through the Viking heartland. The studio also released a new developer diary this week showing the ground-breaking technology they’re using to create most believable hero they can.

Of course, those who’ve been keeping an eye on Hellblade since the announcement at gamescom 2014 will be far more interested in what we’ve learned from the game’s new trailer. In addition to revealing the final name of the project, this week’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice footage revealed the central goal of the game’s protagonist. After losing what looks to be dozens of friends or family, maybe other Celtic warriors, Senua is desperate to recover what the only surviving member of her party. Narration in the trailer suggests the missing person could be a romantic interest, though it’s never stated outright.
