Now that Heists are finally available on GTA Online, people are flocking to the new modes. With a huge surge in popularity, it's only logical that the servers may be experiencing some issues. If you're having a hard time getting on, try out these steps to make things better. Granted, these are not guaranteed to work, but they have been proven to help.

We will update the article if Rockstar has posted any solutions. Your best bet is to simply try again and/or wait for the servers to start adjusting to the increased amount of players. Be sure to follow the Rockstar Twitter account, the Rockstar Support Twitter account, and the Rockstar Support website for any other updates.

Rockstar has also confirmed that GTA Online is currently down for Xbox 360 users. Keep checking back on the Rockstar Support website for further details.

Hard Reset Everything

Doing a Hard Reset of all of your equipment is definitely something that can help with online performance. If you aren't sure how to do a hard reset, follow these steps:

  • Xbox One: Hold your finger on the Xbox button on your Xbox One console. Keep holding it for several seconds before the console shuts itself off.
  • Xbox 360: Unplug your Xbox 360 from everything for a few minutes, then plug it all back in

Also try doing the same for your modem. For most models, unplug the power cable as well as the coaxial cable. Wait a few minutes, then plug everything back in.

Again, these tips aren't a sure-fire fix, but they definitely can help.

Turn it off, and turn it on again

The jokes are mostly true, if you are having problems logging into GTA Online and you don't want to power cycle everything, just try to turn off GTA Online and turn it back on again. This could get you into a new game session that is running smoother.

Lester Isn't Calling

If you can't seem to find the Heists, make sure you are meeting all of the requirements for them. If you just want the quick run-down of what you need to do, here you go. I'll explain each step further below if you are confused. Also, if you have already completed a heist Lester will wait some time before calling you back. Be patient and try out some of the other new game modes just added today.

  • Heist Leader must be level 12 or higher
  • Heist Leader must own a high-end apartment with a planning board
  • Heist Leader must have enough money to front the cost of the heist him/herself

Heist Leader

This role is arguably the most important role in any heist. The Heist Leader is a player who decides he or she wants to run their own heist mission. To do this, players must be level 12 or higher and own a high-end apartment with a planning board. From here, the Heist Leader gets to decide what heist to tackle, what players will take on each role, and how much of the final cut each player will take in. Heist progress is only saved with the Heist Leader, so make sure you follow a trusted Leader into battle.

Apartments

The Heist Leader will need a high-end apartment in order to organize a heist. Thanks to the GTA Wiki, we now have a full list of all of the high-end apartments, where they are located, and how much each one costs.

Other Players

While you don't get to do what you want on a heist, you should cater to a set of special skills. If you want to be the pilot, start pumping up your flying stats. If you want to be the sniper/lookout, get your shooting stats going. The Heist Leader will still get to ultimately decide your role, but at least you can make compelling arguments for your preferred positions. Also, all players including the Heist Leader will not be given special gear or vehicles to perform heists. This means that you may want to stock up on a variety of items like silenced guns, big trucks, smaller cars, melee weapons, and everything else to cover all of your bases. The Heists update will include new gear to unlock, but having some equipment beforehand is going to really help.

All Players

Rockstar stressed the importance for all players to be wearing a headset while playing Heists. This is to ensure active communication between all players involved. Communication will be key to performing a successful heist with timing and coordination of movements being crucial to certain tasks. Make sure you're wired up and ready to go.
