The next free game at the Epic Game Store has been revealed, and boy is it a big one. Best-selling and award-winning AAA title Grand Theft Auto 5 is now completely free. You have to claim the game on the Epic Store and it will be yours to keep forever. But do keep it in mind that you have to claim it by May 21, as after that you will have to purchase the game.

GTA 5 as a free title is a surprise as its a pretty big title to give away. Also Rockstar rarely gives any of their games for free. GTA 5 was previously available for Xbox Game Pass owners, however, it was replaced by Red Dead Redemption 2. It means that if you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you can technically play the game for free. The first month of Xbox Game Pass only costs $1, so that’s a pretty good deal if you ask me.

Rumors suggesting GTA 5 as a free Epic Games Store offering started a few days ago, and given the fact that Epic Store marked their next free game as a mystery game only added fuel to the fire. Normally, Epic reveals its upcoming free games in advance.

What is undeniable is the demand for GTA 5. Sales of the game are still going strong, even after seven years. The demand is so high that thee Epic Game Store servers have crashed after releasing GTA 5 for free. This is probably because of thousands of players that were waiting to claim the game.

Epic even tweeted about the problem and assured the fans that they are working on it. “We are currently experiencing high traffic on the Epic Games Store," the tweet said. "We are aware that users may be encountering slow loading times, 500 errors, or launcher crashing at this time and we are actively working to scale. We'll provide an update as soon as we can.”

For me, Epic Store is working and I was able to claim the game, however, several players still are experiencing issues.

So what do you think? Are you interested in GTA 5? Have you claimed the game yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
