With the anticipated launch of PlayStation VR and rumors of a new PS4.5 'NEO' console, there's no question that Sony intends to make great waves in the gaming industry this year. We expect Sony's massive product push to be accompanied by an equally exciting content push. Let's get down to business: will the highly anticipated Gran Turismo Sport arrive in 2016 or not?

Based on past reports via Gameblog.fr, development of Gran Turismo Sport may have run into some obstacles, causing the game to miss a supposed March deadline. Because of this, an earlier promised Spring public has yet to happen. Speculators are taking these reports as a sign that Gran Turismo Sport may be delayed until 2017.

Thankfully, a recent quote from Sony Europe Vice President Phillipe Cardon during an interview game blog Challenges.fr said the following:

“This will be a better year for the software and a very big year for the hardware. We expect to sell many consoles yet. And then there Uncharted 4: a Thief’s End, the Sony event for this year. This is our biggest release of the year with Gran Turismo and the return of The Last Guardian. And of course, the PlayStation VR arrives.”

So there you have it. Despite a period of radio silence, Cardon says Gran Turismo Sport is amongst the titles that will make 2016 a "better year for the software and a very big year for the hardware" for Sony.

For those that need a refresher on what Gran Turismo Sport is all about, here's what you need to know: Firstly, no, it's not Gran Turismo 7. Having established that, Gran Turismo Sport will be a racing esports platform that will deliver a racing league experience in collaboration with the FIA motorsports body. For Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, the game defines itself as an opportunity to become an incubator for future professional racing drivers.
