Battleborn’s publisher, 2K Games, recently announced that the servers for the hero shooter game will be shutting down in January of 2021. Battleborn was released in 2016 and became a free-to-play game in 2017. 2K Games also confirmed that the publisher now plans to focus its efforts and resources on other projects.

Following the announcement, 2K Games also took to Twitter to make the same announcement. The tweet was split into three parts. The first tweet read “Today we have begun the process of gradually sunsetting Battleborn. Starting February 24, 2020, you will no longer be able to purchase virtual currency for use in the game.” The following tweet mentioned, “The game’s servers will remain active and the game will continue to be playable until January 2021. However, once servers are deactivated, Battleborn will no longer be playable. To learn more, please refer to this detailed FAQ”. The third tweet stated, “Today we have begun the process of gradually sunsetting Battleborn. Starting February 24, 2020, you will no longer be able to purchase virtual currency for use in the game”.

Battleborn will remain playable until 2021 in some form. 2K Games also mentioned that the game’s in-game currency, Platinum, will longer be available for purchase after February 24, 2020. If you have stockpiled any currency, you can still spend it before the servers go offline in 2021. Once the servers for Battleborn go offline, you cannot play the game in any capacity, including its single-player campaign.

The game has already been removed from most online game stores, including PlayStation Store and Steam. However, users can still get a copy of the game from physical retailers.
