Atlanta was the best TV show of 2016, and that’s not just my opinion. But unfortunately, fans will have to wait until 2018 for Atlanta Season 2. The good news is, Donald Glover has signed an overall content deal with FX.

The delay announcement doesn’t exactly come as a surprise, considering Glover’s really busy schedule, including working on the still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story spin-off in particular, where he’ll play the young Lando Calrissian. Filming for Star Wars begins in February, and Atlanta Season 2 is rumored to start production in August.

Actor Keith Stanfield, who plays Darius, tweeted last week, “The gangsters are back filming Season 2 late August, after Gambino gets done playing with light sabers and shit.”

The network released the following statement:

“Donald is a remarkable artist, effortlessly shifting from actor to writer, producer, director and musician to create one amazing project after another. Atlanta was just the beginning, the breakout comedy of the year and a series revered as much for its originality as its honest look at the experience of being aspiring, young and black in that legendary city. We’re proud to partner with Donald in an overall deal that will allow him to continue turning his creative vision into incredible television.”

Glover also recently wrapped production for Spider-Man: Homecoming. His role is still a mystery. Needless to say, we’ll be seeing a lot of Donald Glover this year and Atlanta Season 2 will probably be well worth the wait.
