Fortnite Season 8 begins today with the release of the official V8.00 patch. While there was no word on when the event will end, a posting on Fortnite’s PlayStation event revealed that it will last for around 70 days. That means the new season will end around May 7 or May 8.

Season 7 took a lot longer than expected, especially with two additional weeks added at the end. The reason for the extension was to give the developers a much needed break. Players were treated to 20 Overtime Challenges which had a Valentine’s Day theme to tide them over until the new content was ready. Players who managed to complete 13 of the challenges got the Season 8 Battle Pass for free.

For those who were unable to complete the Overtime Challenge, the Battle Pass can be purchased in-game for 950 V-Bucks. There is also the option to buy a Battle Bundle for 2,800 V-Bucks which includes not only the Season 8 Battle Pass but unlocks the next 25 tiers.

While Season 7 had a winter theme, fans were initially kept guessing what Season 8’s theme might look like. Majority guessed that it would have a pirate theme based on the clues given. Fans are likely happy to know that they are proven correct as the pirate theme has been confirmed.

Indeed, the new season is all about pirates, ninjas, and treasures. Players will see that the island has been transformed and there are now volcanoes that churn out lava while the presence of volcanic vents can allow players to be boosted to new heights.

This being a pirate-themed event, players will likely want to go around the island and blow things up with cannons. Good news! Players can, as a cannon has been added to the weapon list. Cannons are placed around the map, and once players find them, they will need to put them into position before firing. This may appear to be a lot of work but the cannons can inflict 100 direct damage and 50 splash damage. If that’s not enough, the cannon can also be used to launch players.

Players who already have the Battle Pass immediately get access to the Blackheart and Hybrid progressive outfits. These players also have a chance to get 100 exclusive rewards.

The Season 8 Battle Pass is already available as well as the V8.00 Patch Notes.
