For those looking to buy Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for the Xbox One X, Square Enix has some bad news for you.

It seems that despite Microsoft advertising the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for Xbox One X as being enhanced, the game actually isn’t. After previously being exclusive to the PlayStation consoles, namely PS2, PS3, PS4 and even the PS Vita, Square Enix has decided to release the remastered version on the Xbox One family of consoles and the Nintendo Switch last April 16.

While the port was welcome news all around, it appears that Microsoft may have employed some slightly misleading tactics in promoting the game. For one, retail copies of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for the Xbox One X touts that it is specifically ‘enhanced’, meaning that like some of the recent titles on Xbox One X, the Final Fantasy remaster carries better graphics and overall performance upgrades. However, developer and publisher Square Enix has confirmed to Trusted Reviews, who first broke the news, that this is most certainly not the case.

A picture of the physical retail box was recently taken and looking closer, it does state the game is an enhanced version for the Xbox One X. However, a listing for the digital version at Microsoft’s store page (which can be edited pretty easily) states no mention of the enhanced capabilities.

It would also seem that this is not the first time Xbox One X enhancements were missing from the games in which they were promised. Games such as Firewatch, Rime and Bulletstorm were initially stated to carry Xbox One X enhancements, all before they were unceremoniously removed from the official list of enhanced games on the official Xbox website. This was discovered by certain very attentive users of gaming forum ResetEra, and many expressed disillusionment regarding what they deem as an effort to just ‘sweep it under the rug’.

While it may certainly be difficult to enhance newer games, especially if they’re not from the previous Xbox 360, it seems obvious to say that Microsoft shouldn’t advertise games as enhanced if they are not. In any case, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is now available for the Xbox One family of consoles as well as the Nintendo Switch.
