Ten years and millions upon millions of dollars later, Square Enix was laughing straight to the bank on Final Fantasy XV ’s launch day.

Apparently the gaming studio made back all the money invested in Final Fantasy XV ’s production on launch day, according to DualShockers. Square Enix confirmed physical and digital downloads of Final Fantasy XV totalled more than five million copies sold on its release date. That’s insane!

Final Fantasy XV is officially the fastest-selling franchise installment for Square Enix. However, we’re sure Final Fantasy VII Remake will top it when its release date is finally revealed. It’ll be a few more years until we get a production update for the Final Fantasy VII Remake , according to game director Tetsuya Nomura’s recent comments during an interview with Famitsu.

“We’re making steady progress on its production,” Nomura told Famitsu, referring to the development status of Final Fantasy VII Remake . “While we are indeed working on it, I think we’ll have you guys wait a little longer for both Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy VII Remake . I do apologize for that, but we’ll make up for it by making it into something that will meet expectations.”

Take all the time you need, Nomura. Afterall, Final Fantasy VII Remake isn’t a remaster or a port. Fans would rather wait a few years for you to get it right rather than rush through the development. Final Fantasy recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with an image of Cloud and Sephiroth from the Final Fantasy VII Remake production. It looks more like concept art than it does a gameplay screenshot, but the hype is real y’all.

For those of you who can’t get enough of Final Fantasy XV , make sure you pay a visit to the game’s Moogle Chocobo Carnival before it ends on Feb. 19.

Final Fantasy XV

Combat, Plot, Characters Create Something Flawed, Beautiful, Fantastic
Despite it's flaws, Final Fantasy XV is a milestone achievement: not just for being completed, but for being completed with polish, aplomb and love.
  • Engaging main cast of characters
  • Fun, fast-paced combat
  • A massive, beautiful world to explore
  • The Regalia!
  • Continuous updates have addressed some shortcomings of the initial release
  • Major aspects of the story feel rushed or absent, particularly toward the end of the game
  • Stealth sequences feel out of place
