Final Fantasy XIV is gearing up towards the launch of its upcoming expansion later this year, but before that happens, expect a new update soon. Patch 5.55 will be launched on May 25 and you can get a lot of good things, especially those who own PS5. What does the new update have in store for you?

Full PS5 Launch

If you are one of the lucky PS5 owners out there, know that the game will now officially be supported on the console when the new patch arrives.

Playstation 5 users will get improved frame rates, better visuals, faster loading times, and haptic feedback support thanks to the PS5’s DualSense controllers.

In terms of graphics, players will have three modes to choose from. The first is native 4K resolution, the setting you’d want to use for the best graphics quality. Keep in mind that in places where there are many people (like in hubs), you will experience some frame drops.

The next setting is 1440p and this is great if you want a balanced mix of visual fidelity and performance. For the most part, the PS5 can handle everything at 60 frames per second, though you will experience occasional frame drops in densely populated areas.

Lastly, if you want the console to give you the best performance possible, you’d want to stick with 1080p. Although the graphics might not be to your liking, it is ok since it is not the game’s strongest suit anyway. Expect consistent 60 FPS anywhere you go, including crowded city hubs.

Prelude to Endwalker

Patch 5.55 is the last major update before the Endwalker expansion releases, so you can consider this as a prelude for what’s to come.

The game's official Twitter has tweeted something interesting. There will be new skirmishes and critical engagements added to the Save the Queen questline.

Some notable changes to the said questline include:

  • New battlefield map called Zadnor
  • Resistance cap increased from 15 to 25
  • New raid called The Dalriada
  • Decisions the players make will impact how the quest ends

It is worth noting that players would have to complete the main story of Patch 5.4 first as well as the Save the Queen quests introduced in the 5.45 to continue.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is available for preorder and will be released on November 23, 2021.
