The trailer for Final Fantasy 14 patch 4.2, “Rise of a New Sun,” is finally out, and with it a peak at a lot more goodies, this time themed after Final Fantasy VI. You can check out the trailer below:

The new trailer features new characters, the Phantom Train from Final Fantasy VI (come on, they’re playing “Dancing Mad,” it’s not Doomtrain), snippets of what the fight against Byakko will be like, a glimpse at the new Omega raid, and most chillingly, a look at Kefka’s sinisterly smirking visage as the trailer closes. Phantom Train is the first boss for Omega Sigmascape, the new raid tier. (The last tier focused on Final Fantasy V, closing with a battle against Ex-Death.)

Patch 4.2 will also see a number of changes to the housing market as well as new dungeons, story quests, raids and trials. A new set of trials focused on “The Four Lords” is confirmed, with Jade Stoa and Byakko getting a lot of shine. Jade Stoa is the first in the new series of trials. The Four Lords sidestory quests are tied in with the main scenario as well.

Tanks are the class getting most overhauled this time around, with Dark Knights and Warriors receiving buffs as Paladins receive damage nerfs.

A hard remake of Fractal Continuum is on the way, as well as the all-new Hells’ Lid dungeon. We’ve known about the Crystal Tower Training Grounds PvP map for some time, but it’s still nice to see it confirmed. “We created this with a very FINAL FANTASY-feeling featuring chocobos and moogles in order to showcase what FFXIV is for those who are unfamiliar with the game that may be watching a tournament,” states the official forums thread.

Six new wards are being added to each housing area which can be purchased one week after 4.2 drops. Free Companies get to purchase specific housing plots first, with personal housing coming at a later date. The personal housing is restricted to one private and one Free Company estate per world, per service account, which should prevent a handful of players from owning all available housing on an entire server.

Plots relinquished by owners will be unavailable for purchase for a limited time. The time the plot becomes available is set at random without a timer displayed anywhere, presumably to present the gil farmers from crushing the market again. No word yet on whether or not existing housing monopolies will be grandfathered in or if anyone on Mateus will be able to buy a house ever again, but apparently, a new housing website will launch soon to explain the situation to players.

Other details include the removal of elemental modifiers from gear and materia, the addition of harp, grand piano, steel guitar and pizzicato to the Performance Action for Bards, chocobo saddlebags, a ton of glamour updates and more on how the Fashion Report works.

For a more detailed summary of the Live Letter’s contents, check out this thread on the official forums.

Patch 4.2 drops in a little over a week on Jan. 30, preceded by a 24-hour maintenance. What feature are you most looking forward to? Feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
