Fallout 4 PS4 mods don’t appear to be releasing anytime soon because of an ongoing beef between Bethesda and Sony. However, the former’s PR manager has teased that the studio is considering an alternative for PlayStation nation.

On Saturday, Mr. Meeseeks187 tweeted Hines a video that describes three ways PS4 players can enjoy mod-like features without actually having mods. The clip lists workarounds like console command access, select mods being repackaged and sold as free DLC and a “cheat room” stocked with weapons or special ability unlocks.

All of these ideas are essentially better than no mods at all, and that notion isn’t lost on Hines or his colleagues. In response to the analysis, he said “I assure you we don't lack for alternatives. We are trying to do the most possible for PS4 players.” This essentially confirms intent to offer some kind of replacement for not being able to deliver Sony console mods as previously promised.

Of course, not all of the above mentioned tactics are generally the type of thing Bethesda would prefer. Games like Ark: Survival Evolved fully support PC-style console commands on all platforms, but Fallout 4’s creators have historically been against commands due to their sometimes negative impact on system stability and performance. Selling mods as DLC would also be somewhat difficult because everything would have to be QA tested and certified by the PlayStation Network. Such restrictive terms are possibly why PS4 mods were put on hold in the first place.

Whatever form the solution takes, the PS4 mods situation hasn’t resulted in an especially great look for Sony or Bethesda. The former has been pictured as a villain that hampered Bethesda’s vision, while the latter was forced to remain totally silent during the lengthy, and failed, evaluation process. Both sides of this issue may never totally agree, but, rest assured, the makers of Fallout 4 are searching for a compromise.

Fallout 4 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Mod support is restricted to the latter two platforms.

Would you be open to a PS4 mods alternative like the ones described above? Will Sony’s Fallout 4 be forever inferior? Tell us in the comments section!
