Electronic Arts surprised sports gaming fans when it revealed that EA Sports PGA Tour is currently in development. In this game, golf fans have the chance to experience everything about the PGA Tour like the thrills, sights, and sounds. Not only that but also the likes of, among others, THE PLAYERS Championship and FedExCup Playoffs.

The game offers players as well a way to build their very own virtual career. Players can take the role of some of the biggest names in golf and even get to play in many popular courses.

Making this announcement more significant is the fact that around two weeks ago, 2K had revealed they had partnered with Tiger Woods for a new golf video game. That means we probably won’t be seeing this superstar in the EA version. However, 2K did not announce if development had already started.

Going back to EA’s announcement, the company shared that its long relationship with PGA Tour resulted in a franchise that’s entertained millions of players worldwide. With a new long-term deal being signed this year, EA Sports hopes to expand its presence in golf with this upcoming next-gen experience. EA said further that the new game is to be built using EA Frostbite to make the most of next-gen technology.

In a statement, PGA TOUR Chief Legal Officer and Executive Vice President Licensing and Merchandising Len Brown shared that they have entered a deal with EA Sports to bring the full golf video game experience to everyone. Brown added that with this new game, they can give golf fans a new experience when it comes to their favorite sport.

The reveal of a new golf game from EA Sports comes after the announcement of College Football and FIFA.

The PGA Tour video game began in 1990 and features many courses on the actual US PGA Tour. Beginning 1998, the series rebranded itself to the Tiger Woods PGA Tour. That relationship ended in 2013 when EA replaced Woods with Rory McIlroy. The franchise itself has been known to introduce innovations to the genre like the standard three-click swing method.
