'Dune: Awakening' Console Release Is Reportedly Later Than Expected Despite PC Success

Despite its resounding PC launch, Dune: Awakening's experiences are yet to arrive on consoles.

Several days after Funcom released "Dune: Awakening" for PCs, many fans are now met with reports about a later expected release period for the game's availability on gaming consoles. Many were left wondering when will the experience arrive on consoles, particularly as it was previously confirmed that it would follow shortly after the PC release, but that is not the case.

The recently released game is also seeing stellar reviews among PC gamers, with many appreciating the gameplay and significant experiences of this massively multiplayer online (MMO) survival action.

'Dune: Awakening' For Consoles: Coming Later Than Expected

According to a report by ComicBook Gaming, the much-awaited release of "Dune: Awakening" on consoles is not yet coming real soon, with the developers behind it previously confirming that it will skip 2025. "Dune: Awakening" is coming to both Xbox Series S and X, as well as the PlayStation 5, and it was previously revealed to be following the PC release closely.

However, that is no longer the case now, as Funcom revealed that there is a new release period for the renowned survival MMO game, with the company claiming that it would be coming by 2026. Despite this, Funcom has yet to unveil a clear release window for "Dune: Awakening's" console version releases, so it could mean that the game could be available early next year or later.

Funcom did not reveal the reason behind their delays in releasing the console versions of "Dune: Awakening," with their recent confirmation about the delayed release meant for 2025 affecting both platforms. It is safe to say that the issues may center on the game developer's end, but remains unknown if this centers on translating the PC experiencesto the console, or if this has something to do with servers, and plenty of other reasons.

PC Launch Success for Funcom's "Dune" MMO

It is less than three days since Funcom released "Dune: Awakening" and the game was already swamped with resounding reviews from gamers who were able to try out the online experiences. The Steam page of the game features "Very Positive" reviews from a total of 16,276 users as of this writing, following their significant milestone on the first day of the game's release.

On day one of "Dune: Awakening's" release, Funcom saw as many as 142,000 players join the game online, marking a massive milestone for the game, alongside a record-breaking release on Steam.

Despite all of these, there are still many players who want to try out this new survival MMO left out of the experience because of the delayed arrival on the console that has since been pushed for next year.

Following the game's launch, Funcom had already discussed their plans for the additional content that they have lined up for the game, including three DLCs in place for "Dune: Awakening." The first DLC is already coming later this year, particularly by the fourth quarter of 2025, and would then be followed by the second DLC meant for Q1 2026, and the third DLC by Q2 next year.
