DuckTales: Remastered is going to be pulled from online stores on Thursday, August 8. That means the digital version of the game will no long available for purchase on Steam, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.

In a post, Capcom said that the digital version is available until:

  • Wii U – August 9, 7:59 p.m. EDT
  • PlayStation 3 – August 9, 11:00 a.m. EDT
  • Xbox 360, Xbox One (via Backwards Compatibility) – August 8, 8:00 p.m. EDT
  • Steam (PC) – August 8, 7:59 p.m. EDT

However, those who have already purchased the game in the past or before the dates and times given can still access and play the game. Take note that the time given is an estimate, so if you're interested in buying the digital purchase, don't wait for the last minute. As if to tempt you into buying the game before being removed, DuckTales: Remastered is getting a farewell price drop of 75% off on most platforms.

Capcom confirmed however that the disc-based versions of the game can still be installed and played normally. Players can even re-download it even after it’s removed.

While Capcom did not explicitly give a reason as to why the game was being removed, one possible explanation is that the licensing deal with Disney may have expired.

DuckTales: Remastered is a hand-crafted reimagining of one of the most cherished 8-bit games of all time. The game features hand-drawn animated sprites, authentic Disney character voice talent and richly painted level backgrounds from the classic cartoon TV series. The gameplay retains the authenticity of its 8-bit predecessor; simple and fun, with slight modifications to improve gameplay flow and design.

The game received generally positive reviews with Metacritic giving it of 66 to 76 out of 100. Reviewers have praised the game for its gameplay and presentation with the negative being the overabundance of story content.
