UPDATE: A representative from Bandai Namco reached out to Player. One to clarify how Z-Capsules, Zenni and Z Coins work within Dragon Ball FighterZ. Here's a breakdown of what they are and what they do.

Within Dragon Ball FighterZ, players can exchange Zenni to obtain Z-Capsules which give players random items.

Zenni can only be earned through gameplay, there is no way to purchase Zenni with real currency.

Z Coins are earned when players trade in duplicate items they obtained from Z-Capsules (i.e. avatar clothing/accessories).

Original story follows:

With just days to go before Dragon Ball FighterZ’s official release, a new screenshot from the highly-anticipated fighting game has some fans worried about a possible loot box element.

According to a Dragon Ball FighterZ screenshot posted by Twitter user AllGamesDelta, there’s a loot box system in the fighting game. However, there seems to be more to it than what the screenshot actually shows. Check out the tweet containing the Dragon Ball FighterZ loot box below.

These “loot boxes,” called Z Capsules, contain customizable clothing for your avatar and lobby titles. These capsules can be purchased with two different in-game currencies, Zeni and Premium Z Coins. Zeni are earned through fighting, but Premium Z Coins have angered fans, who assume real-world money is needed to purchase this type of in-game currency (or at least take a lot of grinding or hoop-jumping). However, AllGamesDelta came back to Twitter to clarify that Premium Z Coins are obtained via duplicates of avatar and lobby customizables found in the Z Capsules.

This means everything you can obtain in Dragon Ball FighterZ ’s “loot boxes” can be earned through in-game means. But that does that mean players CAN’T purchase Premium Z Coins if they wanted to? We don’t know the answer to that right now. We reached out to Bandai Namco for comment and clarification and will update if we receive word.

Loot boxes have become a pretty common element fighting games. For instance, in Injustice 2, gear and special abilities can be unlocked by obtaining loot boxes called Mother Boxes. These and other in-game currency, like Source Crystals, can be obtained by completing special tasks and completing the game’s living towers. Players also have the option of purchasing Source Crystals from their console’s store for real-world money.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will release for PS4, Xbox One and PC on Jan. 26.

So what do you think of this type of loot box system in Dragon Ball FighterZ ? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
