Dota 2 World Pro Invitational SG: No Losses For EG And Gambit After Day 1

The Dota 2 World Pro Invitational Singapore may not be offering any DPC points but there's no question that the competition just as exciting as any other. This year's tournament has 12 of the world's best teams. Organized by ONE Esports in partnership with PGL, the tournament offers a prize pool of $500,000.

The tournament is well underway and after Day 1, the results of the Group Stage have Alliance and Team Secret leading Group A with Evil Geniuses and Gambit Esports leading Group B.

Format

The tournament is divided into two parts. The Group Stage divides the roster into two groups of six teams each. Teams play best-of two round robin matches with the top two teams moving to the Upper Bracket. Third and Fourth placed teams go to the Lower Bracket, and the bottom two teams are eliminated.

The Playoffs follow a double elimination format with games being played as best-of three, except for the Grand Finals which is a best-of five.

Group A

For Group A, both Alliance and Team Secret swept their respective opponents. Secret opened the tournament against Virtus.pro and won 2-0. Secret later faced J.Storm and again won 2-0, making use of a Tiny-Wisp combo. Alliance, meanwhile, made short work of Team Aster and then later TNC Predator, beating both teams 2-0.

Alliance and Secret matched up later in the day. In the first game, Secret dominated with 25 team kills against Alliance's nine. The second match, however, was a hard fought one with Alliance eventually claiming the victory.

Day 1 results for Group A are:

  • TNC (1-1-1)
  • VP (1-1-1)
  • J.Storm (0-1-2)
  • Aster (0-1-2)

Group B

While Group B had fewer games, the results show EG and Gambit leading the way.

EG kicked off the matches for Group B, going against Vici Gaming. Both games went in favor of EG, with the two teams pretty much picking the same three heroes for both games. EG, for instance, went with Doom, Tiny and Lich. VG, meanwhile, decided to use the Crystal Maiden, Elder Titan, and Legion Commander. There were strong performance from EG with Artour "Arteezy" Babaev and Abed "Abed" Yusop getting double-digit kills and no deaths in the first game. In the match against PSG.LGD, it was be these two again that dominated the matches.

Gambit faced off against Team Liquid first and managed to get two wins with the second one coming in under 30 minutes. Gambit then played against Natus Vincere and swept them as well.

  • Gambit (2-0-0)
  • Na'Vi (1-0-1)
  • VG (1-0-1)
  • PSG.LGD (0-0-2)
  • Liquid (0-0-2)

Day 2 matches begin on December 17 at 9:00 p.m. EST with the first being J.Storm against Aster.
