Team Spirit once again showed why they are the TI champion and the team to beat in the Dota 2 competitive scene in Eastern Europe. After ending Tour 1 on top, they won the Regional Final by working their way from the Lower Bracket. Safe to say it was like what happened in the last TI. Like other winners of the Regional Finals, they get $50,000 and 250 DPC points.
The top four of EEU after the end of Tour 1 were Spirit, PuckChamp, Virtus.pro, and HellRaisers. In the first set of matches, it was Virtus.pro against PuckChamp. VP would win 2-0 and then get a 2-1 victory versus HellRaisers. This allowed VP to wait in the Grand Final.
What happened to Spirit? Spirit was brought to the Lower Bracket after losing 1-2 to HellRaisers. That wasn’t a problem for Spirit as the team worked their way up to the Grand Final by sweeping opponents. First, it was PuckChamp then HellRasiers.
Grand Final
The Grand Final was exciting because on one side, there's the current TI champion. On the other side, there's a team hoping to reclaim the top spot after a not-so-good performance at TI10. If that’s not clear, it was Spirit vs. VP.
While there was a bit of an expectation on how things would turn out, it was all Spirit. In the first game, VP didn’t have a chance. Alexander "TORONTOTOKYO" Khertek on Queen of Pain had a strong performance with 21 kills and only one death. As if that’s not enough, Illya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk contributed 14 kills on Drow Ranger.
The second game was like the first one. TORONTOTOKYO had 12 kills on Ember Spirit while Yatoro had 13 on Monkey King. To be fair, VP had a good start only to falter toward the end.
The third game was different, though not for the reason you may think. VP didn’t win this one but they seemed to have lost their will to fight. So, Spirit dominated the entire match and ended it in just a little under 18 minutes.
Will there be a team that can serve as a threat to Spirit in the region?
