One of the biggest reasons Rainbow Six Siege is successful is because of a decision that many games stay away from. Early in the production, developers decided to not have respawning in the game as it would remove any tension in the matches and make Siege just another run and gun shooter. All of this could have been changed if the higher-ups at Ubisoft would have decided otherwise.

"I know someone at Ubisoft who is in a very high creative position who said, 'Oh, [no respawning] is the first thing that's going to get cut.' I'm really happy that he was wrong," Lead Game Designer Jean-Baptiste Halle said in the video below. "[No respawning] felt like something that would never pass the gate; it would never be validated."

Game Director Leroy Athanassoff also explained why he thinks that no respawning is better for the game. "If I knew that I was able to respawn, I would probably just sprint around, exploring the map, maybe I get shot but I don't care, I can come back," he said. "[But with no respawning] I have just one life. It instantly created the tension we were searching for."

Athanassoff said that adding respawning in the game would definitely make it more popular, however, it would lose its tension and intensity. "Yes, clearly, and I won't deny it: games with respawning are more accessible by nature. It's maybe more appealing and less scary ... but also, the taste and the experience you have is not with the same intensity," he said.

As of now, Siege has over 50 million players. The game has been gaining momentum after every new free DLC. To support the game even further, developers also decided to release the game on next-gen consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
