Destiny 2
Destiny 2 Bungie

We’ve reached the first weekend since Destiny 2 charged onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Naturally, many players assumed this would be their first opportunity to significantly expand their collection of exotic gear, presumably in preparation for the game’s first raid. But no one seems to be able to find Xur hiding out at the Farm... or anywhere else, for that matter. Turns out there’s a good reason though. He hasn’t returned yet.

Paying a visit to Xur every weekend has been a tradition for many Destiny for the better part of three years now. It took a few weeks for some players to realize the Agent of the Nine was present in the Tower, and selling such incredible gear, when vanilla Destiny launched back in 2014. But players have been flocking to him in the years since, rushing to be the first to publish his whereabouts on YouTube, Twitter, message boards and anywhere else people seek out information on their favorite video games. It’s became easy to identify his whereabouts, partially because Bungie started surfacing the information in a variety of ways and partially because you could just follow the mobs running to one section of the Tower every Friday and Saturday.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait another seven days to revive this tradition in Destiny 2. According to Bungie, Xur won’t make his first appearance until Sept. 15, two days after the game’s first raid goes live and the same debut that the Trials of Osiris make their return to the Crucible. The extra week gives more people time to reach the level cap -- which is back down to 20 (for now) -- so they can actually make good use of the gear they’d hoped to acquire this weekend. But it’s a bit disappointing for those who’d already finished the campaign and hoped to expedite the slow grind to 230+ Power.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game hits PC on Oct. 24.
