Microsoft and Xbox are not yet done with August, as the publisher announced a special addition to the Game Pass lineup coming this Tuesday, August 23. Death Stranding, the unique, open-world exploration title from Hideo Kojima, is coming to PC Game Pass alongside a plethora of features for PC players to enjoy. That said, there are some notable caveats, but if you’re subscribed to the service and haven’t played it yet, then this version is a great start to get into Death Stranding. The minute-long trailer lists the upcoming features included in this version of Death Stranding. It's fairly similar to the earlier-released Steam version, which includes ultrawide mode, photo mode, higher frame rates, and crossover content featuring Half-Life, the series which put Valve, the company behind Steam, on the map.
Moving on to the caveats. First up, it’s apparent that this version of Death Stranding is only available for Game Pass on PC, which is a very big shame if you’re using the service on Xbox. That said, if you never got around to playing Death Stranding when it was first released on PC and you are subscribed to the service, this is a very solid start to get into the unique and gorgeous game from famed director Hideo Kojima, best-known for his work on the Metal Gear series.
Another thing worth noting is that this is the older, original game version, not the recently released Death Stranding Director’s Cut. If you’re wondering what the differences are between the two, below are some examples:
- PS4 Pro quality for default graphics settings (Director’s Cut features PS5 quality).
- Director’s Cut ships with a refined version of DLSS upscaling, and support for Intel XeSS.
- Improved CPU performance.
- Faster loading times.
There are also several unlockable special cosmetics to be included in the Game Pass release of Death Stranding, including:

- Gold and Silver Power Skeleton
- Gold and Silver All-Terrain Skeleton
