Many gamers won’t be finished with Dark Souls 3 for several more weeks, maybe longer, but those already wondering when we’ll see the content covered by the game’s season pass got a new update on FromSoftware’s release plans this week. Unfortunately, it sounds like we’re only going to get one Dark Souls 3 expansion before the end of 2016.
Earlier this month, Bandai Namco began to reveal the first details on what players could expect from the Dark Souls 3 Season Pass. While we still don’t have an exact release date for the game’s first expansion, the publisher says fans can expect new Dark Souls 3 DLC sometime this fall. The company also confirmed the game’s first expansion would add new bosses, equipment and sections of the map to explore. Now, we’re finally getting an update on the second Dark Souls 3 expansion. But it’s not going to arrive nearly as quickly as the first.
According to a new interview with Dark Souls 3 game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, published by GNN, the second batch of Dark Souls 3 DLC won’t emerge until sometime in early 2017. On the plus side, he does still mention plans to release the game’s first expansion sometime this fall, but this pretty much kills any chance of seeing a second Dark Souls 3 add-on in time for Christmas. On the plus side, the lengthy development period suggests we’ll likely see new bosses and portions of the map in the game’s second expansion, too.
Dark Souls 3 is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game’s first DLC is expected to debut sometime this fall.
