CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is premiering this September 13 on Netflix. All 10 episodes of this standalone anime series will be released on the same day.

The show tells the story of a street kid named David Martinez, who’s just doing his best to survive in technology and body modification-obsessed city. As a result of a personal tragedy, David makes the decision to be in control of his own destiny by becoming an edgerunner, a mercenary outlaw also called a cyberpunk. Lending his voice to David is none other than Kenichiro Ohashi. His previous works include Super Crooks (Forecast), My Hero Academia (Toya Setsuno), and Black Clover (Leopold Vermillion).

Another character to look forward to is Lucy, a skilled netrunner and a rather important member of Maine’s mercenary crew. She may have highly sought-after technical abilities but all she wants is to escape Night City and her dangerous past. She’s voiced by Aoi Yûki whose credits include My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! (Sarah), I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level (Azusa Aizawa), and the more recent Uncle from Another World (Mabel).

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was made possible through a collaboration with Studio Trigger. The Japanese animation studio is known for shows like Little Witch Academia, Darling in the Franxx, and Kill la Kill. Serving as director of the show is Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare). Meanwhile, the chief character designer and executive animation director is none other than Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal).

The original score for the show was composed by Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill series). The screenplay was done by Masahiko Otsuka (Star Wars: Visions The Elder) and Yoshiki Usa (Gridman Universe series).

The show is a spinoff of the video game Cyberpunk 2077. Released in December 2020, the game follows the story of the mercenary known as V as he struggles to deal with a cybernetic implant that threatens to overwrite his body with the personality and memories of a dead celebrity that's only perceived by V. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
