Video gaming news outlet IGN has just posted a new short gameplay showcase for the upcoming action-adventure platformer Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time from developer Toys for Bob and publisher Activision. The game is set to release for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 2.

The three-minute gameplay video showcases some of the beloved series protagonist’s moves, along with new mechanics that players should expect once Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is available to play. First off, we are given a glimpse at some of the stages we should expect from the game such as an underwater level filled with schools of fish and colorful coral formations. A volcano level is also seen, with Crash running away from a T. Rex while also avoiding lava-filled environmental hazards.

There is also what looks like a futuristic level which is most likely set in space. One of the mechanics shown here is where the game shifts into a 2D side-scrolling view and allows Crash to either stick to the floor depending on where the wumpa fruits are or what obstacles and enemies should be avoided. However, most of the video takes place in what looks like an island cove level filled with sand, sun, and palm trees.

It can be seen here that most of the game’s original mechanics are retained, such as Crash’s spinning move, the crates which can either be rewards or hazards (such as the TNT and Nitro crates), and more. One added mechanic seen during the level’s rope jumping sequence involves Crash jumping left and right and maneuvering up and down multiple ropes while he slides to avoid obstacles and get the greatest number of crates possible.

So far, Toys for Bob’s work on Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time looks very promising. I’m hoping there’s an added mechanic that will relate more closely to the game’s time traveling aspect, though. Maybe we'll see something like that in the future.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is set to launch for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 2. A PC and Switch release is still unconfirmed as of this writing.
