It’s no secret that Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone have been plagued with hackers. Every online game has some amount of cheaters, but cheating in MW has become so rampant that many console players have decided to turn off crossplay so they don’t get matched against PC cheaters.

Activision has also taken several steps to get rid of this problem as fast as possible. The company previously announced that they have banned over 70,000 cheaters in the game, and apparently that isn’t enough. Warzone is a free game so cheaters can just make another account and come back again. Now, the latest patch has started to match ‘suspected’ cheaters into the same lobby with each other. This means that many hackers will play against each other, rather than ruining a good player’s experience.

Apex Legends, another free Battle Royale game, adopted this method along with several other measures. The hacker problem in the game was reduced drastically. Modern Warfare/Warzone also needs to make a turnaround like that. The developers are taking more measures as its latest patch deployed ‘additional security updates’ in the hopes of countering cheaters. Resources for Enforcement Teams, Backend Tech, and Studio were also increased. All of this bundled with the new matchmaking should definitely make a dent on the hacker problem. More new features and countermeasures will also come over time. Future patches will bring ‘Report a player’ functionality so that you can report suspected cheaters during Killcam and Spectator Mode.

Modern Warfare has been very successful since it was released. That success only increased after the launch of the free Battle Royale mode, Warzone. Warzone was able to amass over 50 million players in only one month. If Activision wants to keep this momentum going, they really need to resolve the cheater problem so that players don’t ditch their game for other MP games that have a better anti-cheat system.

So what do you think? Have you encountered any cheaters in Modern Warfare or Warzone? What other steps do you think developers should take in order to solve this issue? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
