Rejoice, Bulletstorm fans!

Just 24 hours after Microsoft hosted its annual E3 press conference, screenshots of what seems to be a remastered Bulletstorm have been discovered on a USB stick distributed to members of the press after Monday’s event. The images were originally discovered by Eurogamer, which published the screenshots Tuesday, and show much cleaner versions of locations and characters featured in the 2011 shooter. But no one is really sure what to think, considering Bulletstorm wasn’t included in Microsoft’s presentation and there was no additional information included on the USB stick.

Of course, rumors of a “definitive edition” of Bulletstorm won’t exactly come as a shock to those who’ve been keeping tabs on the game (and any potential sequels) since it’s debut. Developer People Can Fly made headlines last summer when the studio turned independent, acquiring the core Bulletstorm IP from former owner Epic Games during the separation. We’ve known for several months that People Can Fly are working on a brand new game, but it wouldn’t exactly be out of the question for the studio to port its existing work to familiarize itself with new console hardware and/or a new game engine.

We’ve seen similar approaches in the past from other studios, like Bethesda, that have remastered existing properties to familiarize themselves with the current generation of hardware. It’s also possible People Can Fly could plan to distribute a potential Bulletstorm remaster with whatever the studio’s next game is, a la Bethesda with its current Dishonored 2 pre-order promotion or Activision’s bundling of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered with Infinite Warfare.
