Developer Awe Interactive has just announced an exact launch date for BPM: Bullets Per Minute, which is their upcoming “rhythm-action first person shooter roguelike” game. It has been confirmed via the game’s official Twitter account BPM will be made available for PC via Steam come September 15.
BPM: Bullets Per Minute is an unlikely combo of roguelikes, first-person shooters, and rhythm games. Players assume the role of a powerful Valkyrie tasked with clearing the world of Asgard from the invading Underworld forces. Plot-wise, this is your typical “good versus evil” and “light versus darkness'' storyline, but what makes BPM: Bullets Per Minute unique is in its gameplay, which is an unholy combination of gunplay and music. What usually stands for beats per minute is now replaced with bullets per minute, and all of the player’s actions and the actions of everything in the game, from enemies to the environment, are controlled and tied to the beat of the music. With a rock opera setting the tone of the game, enemies perform dance sequences and the player’s guns will shoot bullets in accordance to the music’s rise and fall. A 40-second trailer for BPM: Bullets Per Minute has been unveiled via IGN and it showcases some of the game’s most essential mechanics, such as reloading, dodging, jumping, and more.
The folks at Awe Interactive have already provided information as to what players should expect: there will be seven bosses plus a final boss, each with their own unique movements and attacks depending on the game’s music. There will also be over 40 items that range from weapons to buffs that can be equipped that provide unique skills and abilities. Finally, there are five characters to choose from, each with their own diverse strengths and weaknesses. Much of the game will be made up of randomly generated dungeons with an added Challenge mode for purists who want to set records.
BPM: Bullets Per Minute is set to launch for the PC via Steam on September 15. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are also currently in the works and are expected to release in 2021.
