Crossplay has recently become a popular feature among gamers, allowing people to play together regardless of what console they are on. The crossplay barrier was initially broken by Fortnite and ever since then, players have been requesting other developers to also enable crossplay in their games. While some popular games such as Call of Duty: Warzone did launch with crossplay, other games like Apex Legends are said to be getting crossplay in the future. Borderlands 3 is no exception. Among the many announcements that Gearbox made recently, the developers also stated that crossplay will be coming to Borderland 3.

During PAX Online, Gearbox made several announcements including the PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade for the Borderlands 3 and a new DLC that introduces new skill trees for Vault Hunters. Details for the crossplay update will be revealed next year.

Other games have promised free next-gen upgrades, including Assassin's Creed Valhalla, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Dead By Daylight.

Even though the crossplay feature wasn't the major highlight of the announcement, fans have been wanting it for quite some time. The crossplay feature will enable players across all platforms to play together, including PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Although Gearbox did not reveal a lot about what's coming to Borderlands 3 in the future, the developers did state that players can expect more news regarding the game in early 2021.

In addition to crossplay, Gearbox also confirmed that Borderlands 3 on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 will support four-player split-screen. This should be a great feature for friends who love to hang together and share the nostalgia of split-screen gaming.

Borderlands 3 is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia. The game is also being developed for the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5.
