Bethesda Has Ended Development On The Elder Scrolls: Legends

Say bye bye... Bethesda

Bethesda Softworks announced that it is putting on hold any new content development, along with new releases, for The Elder Scrolls: Legends. This was revealed through a post on Reddit by none other than Community Manager Christian Van Hoose. This was a surprise to many, considering that the previous roadmap promised one more set of new content arriving this year.

The exact words used were that Elder Scrolls: Legends has been put "on hold for the foreseeable future." For those in the gaming community, putting something on hold is pretty much saying that all development work has come to an end. Bethesda did not cite any reason for the decision, but did add that this particular decision is not going to affect the release and development of GAEA, which is the Asia-specific version of Legends. The reason for this is likely because this version is being run separately. However, Bethesda did say that they were going to inform players of their decisions on content and feature development going forward.

Players can still download and play Legends on all existing platforms along with being able to compete online. Single-player modes are also still available. According to Bethesda, they are going to continue "to support the game with monthly reward cards and regular in-game events." However, they went on to say that "new expansions and other future content, however, are no longer under active development." Ongoing maintenance support is still going to be provided.

With that, Bethesda thanked the community for its support of Legends these past few years and for continuing to play the game. Bethesda said that on the next log-in, players are going to recieve "The Tamriel Collection – an assortment of new, three-attribute cards and more – to all players for free."

The Elder Scrolls: Legends is a collectible card game that uses turn-based matches between two opponents, either player vs. player or player vs. a computer opponent. All of the cards are based on the characters, creatures, and lore in The Elder Scrolls series. The game was released to the PC and smartphone platforms back in 2017. Legends was planned to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. There's no word yet if this plan is going to push through, but it seems highly unlikely given that developers are no longer working on new content.
