BattleTech's Heavy Metal Expansion Is Now Available

BattleTech officially released its latest expansion Heavy Metal. The expansion offers eight new ‘Mechs, each complete with unique equipment. There's also a Flashpoint mini-campaign arriving, as well as eight weapon systems. This latest expansion is available for the PC and priced at $19.99.

For fans of BattleTech, Heavy Metal is sure to be the definitive expansion. As mentioned, eight new Mechs are coming to the game, though technically there's only one turly new one. Seven of the new Mechs come from the original BattleTech board game. Meanwhile, the eighth is a Mech that was designed exclusively for this expansion. Overall the features of the game include:

  • One Original and Seven Classic BattleMechs
    • Seven classic ‘Mechs from BattleTech's 35-year legacy make a comeback along with a new new ‘Mech designed exclusively for this expansion. Each classic ‘Mech offers unique equipment which shows the flavor and lore of the original board game.
  • Eight Game-changing New Weapon Systems:
    • Players can now use eight all-new weapon systems to destroy even the most formidable opponents in a wide variety of unique ways. The Mech Mortar, for example, is the first AOE weapon in the game and and can destroy multiple units at once. There is also the new COIL Beam which generates more energy the further the attacker travels before firing.
  • New Flashpoint Mini-Campaign:
    • Meet two legendary characters from BattleTech lore - the Bounty Hunter and the Black Widow of Wolf’s Dragoons. In this mini-campaign, a derelict cargo ship has drifted into the Periphery from deep space. What secrets does it contain, and who gets to control its mysterious payload?

BattleTech: Heavy Metal is now available for digital download on the Paradox Store and Steam.

BattleTech is a turn-based strategy video game that was released in April 2018. In the game, players take the role of a mercenary commander that leads a team of powerful combat vehicles, known as battlemechs. Players can choose each mech's model, armor, pilot, armaments, and skills. Players also control a team of four mechs in combat. In terms of story, the game tells the story of a world dominated by powerful noble houses locked in a devastating war. Players need to select one or more houses to serve. For fans, the game shares a setting with the board game that launched the BattleTech franchise, Classic BattleTech.
