The Banner Saga 2 will make its PlayStation 4 debut three weeks earlier than originally expected, publisher Versus Evil announced on Tuesday , and the extra help from Sony to deliver a faster launch will also yield some special content for PS4 Banner Saga 2 players.
According to Lance James, community director for Versus Evil, hard work from Sony Interactive Entertainment and Shiny Shoe, the studio tapped to port TBS2 to consoles, is the reason why fans can expect to see The Banner Saga 2 three weeks early. Obviously, the community director didn’t go into much detail about the business arrangement that enabled the flurry of development. But James did confirm that the partnership with Sony has yielded a bit of platform-exclusive DLC, in the form of a unique in-game item with a powerful passive ability. Whichever hero carries the “Playful Hilt of Arnr”, equipable at level 10, will get an extra three points in all their talent ranks and a “+20% double strength damage” buff.
We also received minor updates on Versus Evil’s remaining plans for the series. James says Sony is handling the bulk of development for The Banner Saga’s long-awaited Vita port and that Stoic is hoping to release The Banner Saga 3 on PC and consoles simultaneously. He also confirmed the first Banner Saga will receive a 25 percent discount during The Banner Saga 2 launch week.

UPDATE: Microsoft has revealed The Banner Saga 2 as one of the four Games With Gold titles for July. The game will apparently be available as a free download, for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, beginning on July 1. Presumably, it will also be available for purchase the same day.
The Banner Saga 2 is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game heads to Xbox Live first, on July 1, before making its PSN debut on July 5.
